Sunday Elementary Class

Sunday Elementary Class

Sunday 9 am-3pm

We have a system in place to accept returnees, graduates of international schools in Japan, or enrolled children. We are practicing the same curriculum as the elementary school of an international school that is common throughout the world so that we can inherit what we have learned until just before returning to Japan. At the same time, we will prepare a letter of recommendation, a report card, and a report card to be submitted to the local international school when transferring to another school. (For students who have been enrolled for 1 year or more)

There are returnees from various countries such as Spanish-speaking countries and Asia as well as English-speaking countries, but it is prohibited to use languages other than English in the class. We will have a fulfilling international school life once a week from 9am to 3pm.

Language Arts

Guidance will be given in groups of grades that suit each student's skills. Depending on the level of proficiency, you may be in a group with a different grade from the original grade. As a general rule, it takes one year to digest the contents of one grade of International School. If it is considered that the degree of understanding is insufficient, the repetition system will be applied only to Language Arts.

Grammar

If you find lack of understanding, forgetting, misunderstanding, or omission in the content that you should have learned before while learning the word conventions (grammar) required for each grade and improving your skills, we will provide supplementary lessons for each individual. I will do it. We have issued grammar items (progress) so that not only the person but also the parents can understand the weaknesses. Then, we will impose home study (tasks) to make up for weaknesses.

Reading

This class also uses the Oxford Reading tree, which is used by 14,000 international schools around the world. There are 16 levels, 18 books each for the life series and the school series, and more than 300 books are prepared for each level. Returnees can continue from where they studied at the previous school. Therefore, you can continue to improve your reading skills without compromising your reading skills. For children who are new to us, we will start to choose the one that suits them.

The basic task is to read one book a week. Students with extra capacity can read multiple books. From the second grade, assignment prints that match the contents of the book will be printed to confirm the level of understanding of the contents of the book that you have read. In addition, the teacher will ask questions regarding what you have read. In the process of creating answers to such tasks, you will acquire not only reading comprehension but also sentence composition ability.

Spelling

We will use spectrum phonics, which is used in international schools, as a textbook, and ask students to remember one page as their homework every week. We will do a confirmation test in the school. Students with extra capacity can memorize multiple pages and move forward at their own pace.

Debate

This class is for upper grades. I will think about one topic at home from the standpoint of pros and cons. We will divide into two positions in the class and exchange opinions alternately. There are conflicting views on things, and the aim is to think about each one and to listen to and acknowledge the opinions of both parties.

Composition;

This is something to keep in mind when getting children to write English.

1 tense (time spread), grammatical ability

2 Sentence composition ability, role of conjunction, when, where, who

3 Representation of logical power, demonstratives, and pronouns

4 Guessing ability ・ Create a scene from a short sentence and describe it in detail

5 Think about scene development

6 Clarify the reason for the opinion

<Science society>

It will be classified according to age.

The learning theme changes every month, but I have homework to think about every time. Each person will make an answer within the range of their own ability and present it in class. In class, younger children make various efforts such as asking questions to understand the answers of larger children. Similarly, large children are trying hard to explain from various angles so that small children can understand. This exchange is not only effective in understanding the content, but also helps to improve a wide range of language skills such as listening ability, questioning ability, ability to understand questions accurately, and ability to explain.

・ Practical lessons will be held to deepen understanding using human models. Through class, you will learn English words and expressions that you do not usually hear.

<International understanding>

The first thing that is required to understand the culture, traditions, customs, and religions of other countries is to develop the ability to know and explain Japan. And I realize that each Japanese person is always a small goodwill ambassador. From that perspective as well, you will learn the basics of the ability to convey the cultural traditions of your own country. For example, "New Year, Setsubun, Peach Festival, Cherry Blossoms, Dragon Boat Festival, Hinomaru, Tanabata, Mt. Fuji, Tea Ceremony, Emperor System, Akaho Namishi, etc." In addition, we will study the basics of Japanese economy and politics step by step from familiar places, and then expand to the world economy and politics. We will discuss and understand the functions of the United Nations, such as the United Nations' efforts for peace.

<natural environment>

Regarding the natural environment, we will learn the mechanism based on various circulations in the natural world and develop it into solutions to environmental problems.

<World Geography>

We will deliver the World Chain Journal twice a year as a stepping stone to study world geography. We will mail a notebook with an introductory text and photos of Japan that we wrote to our friends in other countries. In the same way, your friends will relay to friends in another country. And it will take half a year to return to Japan. I don't know which country I'm going to visit, but every time a note arrives, my parents will contact me by email so I can tell my child where the note is. Of course, children are interested in that country. I will wait for the return of the notebook while checking on the map.

This note will be published in the classroom from time to time as it comes back.

<Vacation time>

It's time for children in an environment where they can't use English freely to explode the suppressed words. We are talking with our friends while playing with great momentum. My eyes are shining during class, but I can feel the joyful shine in my eyes during the break.

<Lunch / Snack time>

It is an important time to deepen your English skills when eating and drinking. You will acquire more practical English proficiency.

The following points have been taken into consideration when deciding on a substitute class for the elementary school.
1. When the school provides supplementary lessons due to the extension of spring break ・ It seems that there is an idea to use winter vacation and spring vacation rather than sending children to school in the heat of the heat.
・ It seems that there is an idea that even if children go to school during the summer vacation, it may be a guideline until the Obon festival in August.
・ Even if the start of the second semester is advanced, it seems that there is an idea to start from August 24 in consideration of the intense heat.
2. Regarding the setting of a substitute course date for our school ・ A substitute course date will be set in the latter half of the summer vacation in consideration of the relationship with the time when an existing drug effective against coronavirus is found or a new drug is developed.
・ Since general virus activity weakens during the rainy season, it is possible that it will end in July, so a substitute course will be held in the latter half of August.

If a situation that exceeds this assumption occurs, it will be the next term (next year) from September, so unfortunately we cannot offer a substitute course.
